“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." - Exodus 14:14, NIV
SOMETHING TO PONDER
Have you ever received rejection from the carrier you are passionate about,It was the fifth rejection I'd received. During my carrier path as a communication practioner after the layoff my mother called me to go back home during the COVID 19 outbreak, mother had gift of giving hope to people,She told me my son you are a giant the next media guru.Let no one despise you son, they have chased you out of there company but not out of your brain, pursue your vision, I thought for sure God had lined up a slam dunk for me.
And yet, that hasn't been quite the path. Over the past Years, i made programs proposal to some producers but still rejected them, I've been rejected for the size of platforms...
My carrier path has faced hurdles It's been discouraging, just imagine you are that hardworking and a performer but facing this setbacks, one thing remind me God has a way to prepare someone for greater platform.
I started writing articles to Taifa leo Newspaper, Sitting on the couch, tears fell down my cheeks. I wanted to run away, hide, and throw in the towel. Yet, something within whispered these words in Exodus 14:14. Be still and know. Be still and know what? I asked God. My mother Queen Elizabeth Endesha now the late, came home with a newspaper ,she nurtureed me since childhood to pursue communication,as usual i started to peruse the paper, whaaat, my story was right there.
That day Mother had to encourage me,God did not bring me this far just to fail? God is working out something great? He will be in this life to see its fulfilment or an angel watching over its fulfilment. I miss her as my number one fun and support base,a shoulder to lean on. How i wish her to be in this life to see what she wanted me to do,achieve milestones. We MISS YOU GENERAL but your legacy lives on..
Cracking open my Bible and Bible commentary, I learned that to "be still" means to cease from striving. It's the same word used in Ecclesiastes 2:22, "What do people get for all the toil and anxious striving with which they labor under the sun?" I also learned that "cease" can mean to sink down, drop, relax, withdraw, refrain, forsake, let go, be quiet, or show oneself slack.
It's not giving up, but rather quite the opposite. "To be still and know," means that we recognize two things:
1. We do what we can, but leave the rest in God's hands.
2. God is God, and I am not. That evening, I sensed the Lord telling me, you can cease from striving and working yourself to depression No,you can relax, let go, and show yourself slack. I see you.
I know the plans I have for you. I have a better way. I've got this. You can trust me. God alone. You can rest." I sense the same for many of you. If you're in a season of waiting, I want to encourage you that God's timing is best.
Our early days as farmers and enterprenuer, mother us taught us the value of fitting in. Back then, if we did not fit in, we wouldn’t survive. Now, fitting in doesn’t contribute to our survival in anyway. But that desire to belong is so strong that we continue to fit in. And when an opportunity presents itself to stand out, we want it but we also resist it. It is a push and a pull. To story tell is to stand out and not fit in. As a result, even when we know how to tell a story, we will be afraid to tell. And our fear of saying things that people hear and may reject is even greater. So we play it safe and end up looking and sounding like everyone else. It’s not that we can’t tell stories. It’s that we resist doing it due to the fear of not fitting in. And this is the constant pull and push of our story. Only few will stand out and story tell. I hope you are one of them. During her last days here on earth my mother Queen Elizabeth Endesha-General.We should bold enough to handles setbacks and pursue our God given purpose here on earth with courage.
We share some learnings which are centered around delivering the story. I have yet to come across any literature on Storytelling that covers these areas.
Let’s begin 1) In practicing my delivery, do I have to give any focus to pausing at any stage? Pausing and using silence either on commencing or within the story to give your audience a moment to feel the emotion is a skill that doesn’t come without practice, and when practiced, is magical.
Pausing gives the story you are telling some space to build the emotion and to induce anticipation in the audience. Silence draws emphasis to what was just said or what is about to come, and it allows others to contribute their own interpretation. Effectively used, it can greatly increase the impact of your story.
2) Places that I recommend you pause whilst delivering your story are: just after you have delivered the unanticipated in your story just after you have managed to trigger an emotion in your audiences
3) How do I begin my presentation? In the first few seconds, or by the second slide, your audience’s right brain has informed them whether they like you or not, and this is based on how you talk, how you stand and how confident you appear. No matter how good the rest of your content is, you will never regain their attention if the first few seconds have not worked.
He's in control even when it feels like He isn't, and He cares about what you're going through. We won't always receive immediate answers to life's hardest questions, but we can trust the one who holds them.
The day after I wrote this prayer, I received an offer from acompany but God told me its time to begin Media Company,i will walk with you in this journey. We have seen God althrough.......
I don't know when it is or what will happen, but I have to trust the one who holds my tomorrows. Because He is God and I am not. And He always knows best.
