Matthew 1:5 “and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king.” A new name There are names that are spoken of in hushed tones.
Names like _prostitute_. Yet, where faith lives, even names like ‘prostitute’ die. Rahab’s infamous profession gave way to a new name….King David’s grandmother, who was the great ancestor of our Lord Jesus. There’s nothing the Lord cannot redeem.
No sin too big for his mercy. No past too dark to erase. He drowns all our brokenness in the sea of his mercy so that ‘as far as the East is from the West, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.’ And he has promised a new name to those who conquer:
Rev. 2:17 “To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.”
